BEL AIR, Md. – A pair of Loyola University Maryland freshmen, Michael Asselta and Zach Berger teamed to qualify for the United States Golf Association's 2027 Four-Ball Championship on Wednesday.
 
The duo, who are less than three weeks into their college careers, shot 7-under 65 at Maryland Golf & Country Club to finish second in the qualifier and earn a spot in the championship that will be held May 22-26, 2027, at Erin Hills in Wisconsin.
 
Berger and Asselta started Wednesday's qualifier in a hole, going 1-over with a bogey on the course's first hole, but Berger carded a birdie on the par-three third hole, and Asselta had one on the par-five fourth.
 
The scored back-to-back birdies again on the ninth and 10th with Asselta capitalizing on another par-five before Berger had a birdie on the par-five 10th hole.
 
Asselta then eagled the 340-yard par-four 13th hole to get the team to 5-under for the round, and Berger brought them home with consecutive, closing birdies on 17 and 18 to finish their day with a back-nine 29.
