NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Loyola University Maryland golf is tied for fourth after the first day of the 48th Macdonald Cup at the Yale Golf Course on Friday afternoon.
The tournament started a day early because of weather forecast to hit the New England region beginning on Friday. While it stayed dry during the opening 18 holes, players battled significant wind over the first day.
The Greyhounds are eight shots off Harvard's lead; the Crimson shot 9-over 289, followed by Seton Hall (+15), Princeotn (+16), Loyola and Dartmouth (both +17).
Eli Spaulding led Loyola on Friday, shooting 3-over 73 to tie for 10th through 18 holes.
Jack Geyer was a shot back and tied for 12th.
Liam Moloney and
Diego Neira were the other two players to count for the Greyhounds. The pair both shot 5-over 75 and are tied for 21st.
Michael Asselta finished Friday's round tied for 64th at 14-over.
Zach Berger played as an individual, shooting 6-over 76 and is tied for 29th.
Teams will attempt to play the final 36 holes on Saturday. The field will start with an 8:30 a.m. shotgun start, and Loyola will go off with players from Harvard, Seton Hall and Princeton.
