Women's Soccer Hosts Canisius and Niagara

Baltimore, Md. - The Loyola College women's soccer team returns to Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference action this weekend by hosting Canisius Friday and Niagara Sunday. Both games will be played on Loyola's Diane Geppi-Aikens Field. Game time on Friday versus the Griffs is 3:00 while Sunday's game against the Purple Eagles will start at 12:00.

Loyola (3-5-2, 1-0-0 MAAC) is currently led in scoring by senior Carolyn Kennington's four goals and three assists. Freshman Christina Gomez follows with two goals and two assists. Classmate Colleen Kinealy is third in points with two goals and an assist. Senior Courtney Arikian is fourth with two goals while sophomore Theresa Ferraina and senior Kaitlin Klar round out the top five with a goal and an assist and three assists respectively. Freshman goalkeeper Brittany Henderson posts a goals-against average of 1.36 and a save percentage of .740 with three shut outs this season.

Canisius is currently 4-7-1 on the season and 1-0-1 in the MAAC. The Griffs non-conference wins are over The Citadel (2-0), Cornell (2-0) and St. Francis (Pa.) (1-0) while their conference win is over Saint Peter's 3-0. Canisius' losses have come at the hands of New Mexico (3-1), Youngstown State (1-0), Maine (2-0), Central Michigan (3-1), St. Bonaventure (2-1), Buffalo (3-2) and Binghamton (1-0). The Griffs have a tie in conference action, 1-1 versus Manhattan.

Canisius is led in scoring by Stephanie Karst's five goals and two assists. She's followed by teammate Slyvia Kowalski's three goals and Maggie Martini's two goals. Meagan Jones has a goal and one assist while four other Griffs have registered at least a point. Griff goalkeeper Jenna Gage posts a goals-against average of 1.36, saves percentage of .742 and three shutouts.

Niagara is 6-3-0 overall and 2-0-0 in MAAC play. The Purple Eagles topped Saint Peter's and Manhattan last weekend by scores of 5-0 and 2-1 respectively for their undefeated conference record. Their remaining wins are over Buffalo (3-1), Albany (4-1), Cornell (2-1) and St. Bonaventure (3-2). Niagara losses were against Colgate (4-3), Central Michigan (3-2) and Robert Morris (3-2 DOT).

Stephanie Gartley leads the Purple Eagles in scoring with eight goals and four assists. She's followed by Brittany Bisnott's eight goals and one assists. Emily Montgomery has recorded six goals and five assists while Natalie Frost has a team-high six assists. Five other members of the Purple Eagles team have at least four points to their credit. Goalkeeper Sarah Stephens has a 1.82 goals-against average and .738 saves percentage.
