Quick Hits About The 'Hounds

  • Loyola University Maryland women's soccer plays its final midweek match of the 2018 regular-season on Wednesday, October 13, when it heads down Interstate 95 to the Nation's Capital.
  • The Greyhounds will play at American University in a 3 p.m. match. The game will be Loyola's penultimate road match of the season, and it will stream live on the Patriot League Network.
  • After starting the season with three games on the road, Loyola played eight of 10 contests at home. The October 6 game at Holy Cross started a stretch of three of five on the road.
  • Naomi Meiburger is in her fifth season as the head coach at Loyola. She is joined on the sidelines by third-year assistants Kevin Dempsey and Morgan Ruhl and volunteer assistant coach Lacey Phillips.
  • The Greyhounds' 2018 women's soccer roster includes 19 returners with previous experience at Loyola, a transfer and eight freshmen.
  • The 2018 season is Loyola's ninth at Ridley Athletic Complex.

Looking Back

  • Boston University scored with less than four minutes to play Saturday afternoon, breaking a scoreless deadlock to post a 1-0 win in Patriot League women's soccer action over Loyola.
  • Jenna Oldham made a run down the right sideline and cut to the side of the 18-yard box for the Terriers. She crossed a pass to the top of the six where Taylor Kofton was running into the play, but a Loyola defender deflected Oldham's cross into the netting for an own goal at 86:34.
  • The Terriers had eight shots to Loyola's one in the first half, but the Greyhounds' Sumer Rahe made four saves to keep them off the scoreboard.
  • Rahe finished with seven saves, one off her career-high, while Morgan Messner had one for Boston University.

Series History

  • In a series that dates back to the Greyhounds' inaugural season of 1992, Loyola leads  American, 9-3-2, but the Eagles scored their first win in the last 10 meetings between the programs with a 2-1 result last year in Baltimore.
  • American is Loyola's longest standing rival in the Patriot League, as the two sides have met a total of 15 times.
  • In the last nine games, Loyola has outscored American, 21-5.
  • The teams last played on October 18, 2017, at Loyola's Ridley Athletic Complex where the Eagles tallied two goals in the opening 30 minutes. Kira Flaherty scored both tallies, staking American to an early lead.
  • Sarah Ensor scored her first career goal for the Greyhounds, pulling Loyola within one in the 73rd minute off a Julianna Cabrera assist, but the Greyhounds could not put in the equalizer.
  • In 2016, the Eagles looked poised to break through against Loyola, leading 2-1 with less than 10 seconds to play in regulation, but Jourdan Ziff scored her second goal of the game with five seconds left on the clock. Ziff scored earlier in the game, heading in a Morgan Crable cross to equalize the game at 1-1.
  • The Greyhounds' first-ever Patriot League victory was recorded against the Eagles on Wednesday, Oct. 23, 2013. That year, Loyola defeated American, 2-0, at Ridley Athletic Complex.

About The Eagles

  • American is 6-5-3 entering Wednesday afternoon's game after picking up its first Patriot League victory of the season on Saturday at College of the Holy Cross. Audrey Denkler and Yari Bradfield each scored twice as the Eagles came from an early hole to defeat the Crusaders, 4-1.

Goal Outburst

  • Loyola finished with a 5-1 win on October 1 in its non-conference finale against Delaware State University. The five goals were the most Loyola has scored in a match since it beat Saint Peter's, 6-0, on October 5, 2012.
  • Four different players scored goals against the Hornets with the Greyhounds also recording an own-goal tally.

Scoring On A Tough D

  • Hannah Hoefs' goal against Army West Point on Saturday was just the sixth the Black Knights have allowed this season. It was the first Army West Point has allowed in Patriot League play (four matches) thus far in 2018. The Black Knights entered the weekend ranked 11th in NCAA Division I in goals-allowed average.

Four For Hannah

  • Hannah Hoefs tallied her fourth goal of the season on October 1 and her second in as many games. She converted a penalty kick, her second of the season, against Delaware State. On Saturday versus Army West Point, Hoefs  notched her second goal which counted as the eventual game-winner. She one-timed a corner kick by Nicole Rivas that was headed on by Kate Reese past Army West Point goalkeeper Sydney Cassillia.
