CENTER VALLEY, Pa. – Four Loyola University Maryland women's soccer players earned All-Patriot League honors on Monday, the greatest number of Greyhounds that have earned recognition from the conference in a single-season since Loyola joined the League in 2013.
Forwards
Sarah Bayer and
Jourdan Ziff garnered All-Patriot League Second Team nods, while midfielder
Hannah Hoefs and defender
Julianna Cabrera were named to the third team.
Bayer and Ziff gave the Greyhounds a solid scoring presence at the top of their formation this season, each finishing the season with four goals.
Bayer, a freshman from Merrick, New York, was second on the team with nine points, adding an assist to her quartet of goals. She was named the Patriot League Rookie of the Week on October 22 after tallying two goals, including the eventual game-winner, two days earlier against Lehigh University. Bayer was one of two first-year players named to the second team (Victoria Tran of the U.S. Naval Academy).
Ziff culminated her Loyola career with four goals, tying her career-high from her sophomore season of 2016. The senior from Temecula, California, had the go-ahead goal early in the second half against Lehigh and also tallied goals versus Delaware State University and Towson University. She finished her career with nine goals and a pair of assists for 20 points over 49 career matches.
Hoefs picked up third-team recognition after finishing the season as the team leader in points (16), goals (6) and assists (4), racking up three goals and the same number of assists during Patriot League matches. Her overall point and goal totals were tied for third in the conference through the end of the 2018 regular-season, and her four assists were eighth. A junior from New Market, Maryland, Hoefs scored goals in five different matches – netting two against UMBC – and she had a career-high four points against both the Retrievers and Lehigh.
Cabrera finished her Loyola career as a third-team honoree on defense. The Garnerville, New York, native played as a center back throughout the season for the Greyhounds and also contributed offensively on set pieces. Over 67 career games – all as a member of Loyola's Starting XI – Cabrera played more than 6,000 minutes. She scored six goals and had five assists during her four years.
Loyola's four honorees are more than any of the previous five seasons the Greyhounds have been in the Patriot League, topping the three from 2014 and 2015.
