Hounds Cruise To Three-Set Win Over Eagles

BALTIMORE – Loyola University Maryland made just seven hitting errors Wednesday night and eased to a 25-6, 25-10, 25-19 victory over visiting Coppin State University in non-conference action on Reitz Arena.
 
The Greyhounds (4-3 overall) capped the match by hitting .565 in the third set and swung at a .456 clip overall while also totaling eight blocks and six service aces. Meanwhile, the Eagles (2-7) hit .012 with 19 kills and 18 hitting errors.
 
Loyola scored the first four points on the match and eventually went on to lead 17-4 on a Zoe Pawlak kill in the first set.

Coppin State pulled ahead early in the second, but the Eagles never led by more than one. A Cat Vaccaro kill sparked an 8-0 Loyola run that saw Ann Ernst post a trio of kills as she went on to lead all players with 11. Pawlak added two aces late in the set to help close the frame.
 
The Eagles stayed within range of the Greyhounds in the third, closing the gap to two at 16-14, 17-15 and 18-16, Loyola went on a 3-0 run to pull away for good on a kill by Haley Puddy, an Ernst ace and a Clarke Dalton kill. Alex Hamilton later closed the match with an ace.
 
In addition to Ernst's 11 kills, Abby Hamilton, Puddy and Alisah Cash all had six for the Greyhounds. Cash led all players with four total blocks. Katie Forsythe had a match-best 16 digs, while Molly Werts (16) and Alaina Acchione (14) combined for 30 assists.

The Greyhounds stay in the Baltimore area this weekend for tournament play. Loyola heads to UMBC in Catonsville, Maryland for the Charm City Challenge on Friday and Saturday. The Greyhounds play James Madison University and Robert Morris University on Friday before facing the host Retrievers Saturday.
