Box Score CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – Coastal Carolina University had just eight hitting errors and swung at a .321 clip on Friday afternoon, handing the Loyola University Maryland volleyball team its first loss of the season, 32-30, 28-26, 25-14, at the Cavalier Classic.
Earlier in the day, the Greyhounds beat Furman University in five; they close the competition on Saturday morning with a 10 o'clock match against host University of Virginia.
Coastal Carolina (1-0 overall) took a 21-18 lead in the first on a block by Christina Nance and Ani Bozdeva, and two points later a kill by Jelena Prolic made it 22-19.
Abby Hamilton had one of her team-high 10 kills moments later for Loyola, and the Greyhounds were within a point, 22-21.
The teams traded sideouts on the others' errors, and a ball-handling error by the Chanticleers drew Loyola even at 23-23. Hamilton then served an ace, one of her three on the day, and the Greyhounds had set-point at 24-23.
Coastal Carolina fought off that set point, and two more to extend the match. The Chanticleers had three set-point opportunities before converting on a fourth with a Mariia Levanova to send Coastal Carolina up a game.

Molly Jarvis and
Ann Ernst late in the second set pushed Loyola up 19-17, and after a sideout kill for Coastal Carolina, Hamilton swung terminally to make it 20-18. The Chanticleers, however, reeled off three in a row to lead, 21-20, on a Kyla Manning kill.
Ernst had a sideout kill to stop the rally, and
Alaina Acchione served an ace to make it 22-21 Loyola, but Coastal Carolina scored three in a row to get to set-point.
Adara Kellogg and Hamilton had consecutive kills, however, and Loyola extended the frame.
Loyola took a 26-25 lead later in the stanza, but Coastal Carolina scored the last three points to win the second.
Hamilton led Loyola with 10 kills, while Ernst turned in nine, and Jarvis and
Cat Vaccaro each had seven.
Katie Forsythe had a match-high 16 digs, while Ernst added 11.
