Distance Medley Relay Sets School Record At Prestigious Millrose Games

NEW YORK – The Loyola University Maryland distance medley relay team of Senna Ohlsson, Heather Merrifield, Carly Spinnler and Kayleigh Caggiano took nearly three seconds off the school record on Saturday, finish as the No. 2 collegiate team at the prestigious Millrose Games.
 
The quartet of Greyhounds ran a time of 11:51.80 at the 113th-annual Millrose Games. Loyola side.was sixth overall and second behind only Central Connecticut State on the collegiate
 
They beat the three-year old record of 11:54.57 run in March 2017 at the ECAC Championships by Cordelia McGinn, Margaret MacAulay, MaryEllen Woods and Sarah Askine. Saturday's contingent also qualified for the ECAC Championships later this year with what is the fastest time by a Patriot League team this season by almost 13 seconds.
 
Ohlsson opened Saturday's race with a 3:34.58 split in the 1,200-meter leg, placing the Greyhounds in second. Merrifield then moved Loyola up to first with a time of 57.33 in the 400.
 
Spinnler put down a time of 2:18.22 in the 800, and Caggiano finished with a mile-split of 5:01.69.
