BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Loyola University Maryland women's soccer picked up two more weekly awards from the Patriot League on Monday, with
Kaleigh Gallagher honored as the conference's Offensive Player of the Week while
Paige Sim received her fourth Goalkeeper of the Week selection of the season.
Gallagher scored the only goal for Loyola at Holy Cross on Saturday, while Sim made three saves to secure a key 1-0 victory. With the win, the Greyhounds are now alone in third place in the Patriot League standings with four games remaining in the regular season. They are 3-1-1 in conference play, and their 10 points are just two behind co-leaders Boston University and Bucknell.
The goal for Gallagher was a memorable one, as she scored from an impossible angle on the right side of the field in the 11th minute. Her shot towards goal from just above the out-of-bounds line eluded Holy Cross goalkeeper Olivia Dubin and landed inside the left post to give Loyola a lead it would not relinquish. Gallagher is named Offensive Player of the Week for a second time in her collegiate career. Both of her goals this season have come against Patriot League opponents, as she also opened the scoring in Loyola's win over Colgate on Sept. 18.
Sim, meanwhile, continued her impressive run in goal, as she extended her shutout streak to 239:14 after posting a second-consecutive clean sheet. She secured the victory with a big stop in the 85th minute, jumping high to tip a curling Holy Cross effort just above the crossbar. Sim now leads the Patriot League in both shutouts (5) and save percentage (.806), and she is ranked third in goals-against average (1.05). This is her seventh career Goalkeeper of the Week accolade and her eighth weekly award overall.
Chloe Kuminkoski, who picked up her first collegiate point after assisting on Gallagher's game-winner and contributed defensively to the shutout, was included among those receiving honorable mention recognition from the conference.
Loyola has two big Patriot League games at Ridley Athletic Complex this week, beginning with a 7 p.m. matchup against Bucknell on Wednesday.
