Back In Action

  • Loyola University Maryland volleyball starts its stretch run in Patriot League action as it plays a pair of nearby road matches. The Greyhounds, who are coming off a bye weekend, play at Navy on Friday, October 22, at 7 p.m., before heading to American the following day for a 4 p.m. match.
  • Both matches are scheduled to stream live on ESPN+.

Best Start

  • Loyola is off to the best start in its program history through 19 matches, going 14-5 in the opening weeks of the season. The Greyhounds' 6-2 start midway through their Patriot League schedule is Loyola's best since joining the conference in 2013.

Both Sides of the Net

  • The Greyhounds are leading the Patriot League in opponent hitting percentage this season, holding other teams to a .151 mark through 19 matches, a percentage that ranks No. 22 in NCAA Division I this year. Loyola is fourth in all of Division I in digs per set (18.72) with a dig total (1,217) that also leads the conference.
  • Their success has not been limited to the defensive side of the net, as the Greyhounds are third in the Patriot League in hitting percentage, swinging at a .199. They lead the conference, and are 22nd in Division I, in kills per set with 13.91.

Statistically Improved

  • Through October 19, the Greyhounds rank in the top 50 of eight NCAA statistical categories, including the top 30 in assists per set (28th), digs per set (fourth), kills per set (22nd), attacks per set (third) and opponent hitting percentage (.151).
  • Compared to seven years ago, the season before Alija Pittenger took over as head coach, Loyola finished the season with a 2-27 record (0-16 in the Patriot League) and was ranked higher than 260th nationally in only one category (aces per set, 79th).

Nearing Another Record

  • Katie Forsythe holds the top two single-season marks for digs in both Patriot League and Loyola history, and she also holds claim to the top single-game performance at Loyola, a mark that is tied for tops in the Patriot League.
  • Entering the weekend with 1,997 digs, Forsythe is 16 away from breaking the Patriot League career record set in 2019 by American's Kristen Largay (2,012). She is second all-time at Loyola, behind Brittany Born's 2,042 digs from 2007-10.
  • The three-time Patriot League Libero of the Year currently averages 5.98 digs per set during her career, a stat that ranks third all-time in NCAA Division I history.
  • She has finished in the top four of Division I players in digs per set during all three of her collegiate seasons, ranking fourth in 2018, third in 2019 and fourth in 2020. Her averages of 5.86, 6.17 and 6.04 are the three highest in Patriot League history.

  • She was the first player in Loyola history to earn American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) All-Region honors, doing so in 2019 when she was also named the ECAC Defensive Player of the Year. She was then invited to Colorado Springs for Team USA tryouts following that season.
