  • Ada Clare Tempert found the back of the net for the second time in as many games, and her 73rd minute strike was the only offense needed for Loyola in a 1-0 victory over Bucknell on March 13.
  • The Greyhounds picked up their first win over the Bison in seven tries since joining the Patriot League, with the home side preventing Bucknell from registering a single shot on goal.
  • Vanessa Alessi and Taylor DiMarco picked up assists on Tempert's game-winner, with Alessi registering her first collegiate point.
  • Loyola's last win over Bucknell was a 2-1 triumph back on September 30, 2007.

Series History

  • Navy leads 8-3-4 in a series which dates back to 1993.
  • The Mids have a 4-1-4 edge since Loyola joined the Patriot League prior to the 2013 season, with the lone Greyhound victory a 2-1 double overtime triumph at Ridley on Sept. 24, 2016.
  • The teams tied in both of their meetings last season, including a 1-1 draw in the Patriot League semifinals which ultimately saw Navy advance 4-3 on PK's.
  • The teams played to a 0-0 draw in the regular season meeting in 2019. The Mids led 25-2 in shots and 7-2 in corners, but Paige Sim made seven stops, including one off a penalty kick, to secure a point for the Greyhounds.
About the Mids
  • Navy will be playing for the second time this spring, with their previous contest a 2-1 double overtime home defeat to Colgate on Feb. 28. The Raiders trailed in shots (19-10) and corner kicks (10-2), but their second corner of the contest led to the game-winner with 17 seconds remining in extra time.
  • The Mids (0-4) also had three games in the fall, losing twice to Pittsburgh and once to Virginia Tech.
  • Navy returns seven starters from a 2019 squad which finished 16-3-3 (6-1-2 PL) and won the program's first Patriot League championship since 2007. All four departed starters were All
  • Patriot League honorees, including 2019 PL Defensive POY Alex Jackson and first team All-PL selections Sydney Fortson (GK) and Cadie Higginson (MF).
  • Freshman Mattie Gallagher, younger sister of Kaleigh Gallagher, was the starter in goal for Navy's Patriot League opener against Colgate.

Patriot League Tournament Format

  • The Patriot League is split into two five-team divisions this spring, with Loyola grouped in the South with American, Bucknell, Lehigh and Navy.
  • The top two teams in each division advance to the PL tournament, with semifinal games set for April 14 and the championship scheduled for April 17.
  • Division seeding will be determined based on points earned against division opponents (three points for a win, one for a tie). Only the first game played against a division opponent counts towards the team standings.
  • Tiebreaker information is available on the Patriot League website.
  • Loyola (3 pts, 1-0-0) is currently second behind Lehigh (4 pts, 1-0-1) in the South division standings. Navy has yet to play against a South division opponent.
  • Each division winner will host the second-place team within its division in the semifinal round. The remaining team with the highest regular-season point total will host the championship game.
Quick Notes
  • Paige Sim led the Patriot League in both save pct. (.877, 11th in Division I) and GAA (0.54, 15th) in 2019. She was Loyola's first All-Patriot League goalkeeper since 2014.
  • Sim, MK Barnes and Claire Beath are the only three Greyhounds to play all 180 minutes in the first two contests.
  • Sarah Bayer has 20 points (8 G, 4 A) in 38 appearances after recording an assist in the season opener. She and Julia Gray were both Preseason All-Patriot League selections.
  • Gray and Nicole Rivas were selected as team captains for the 2020-21 season.
Last Season
  • Loyola finished with a record of 7-7-5 (3-2-4 PL) in 2019, with the seven victories the program's most since 2012. The Greyhounds went 5-2-5 over the season's final 12 games, allowing only seven goals during that stretch.
  • A double-OT winner from Hannah Hoefs secured a 1-0 victory over Lafayette in the PL quarterfinals, the program's first tournament win since joining the conference in 2013.
  • Hoefs was honored as the PL Midfielder of the Year. Hoefs and Sarah Bayer were named first team All-PL, while Julia Gray and Paige Sim earned second team status and Kaleigh Gallagher landed on the third team.
  • Hoefs, who led the PL in goals (9) and points (21), was also a United Soccer Coaches Second Team All-East region honoree, as she became Loyola's first all-region selection since 2015.
