TOKYO – Loyola University Maryland 2018 graduate McKenzie Coan and current junior
McClain Hermes combined for seven top-10 finishes at the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games, with Coan wrapping up competition for the pair in the 50-meter butterfly S7 on Friday.
Coan, who earlier won the fifth and sixth medals of her storied Paralympics career, placed third in her morning heat with a time of 38.08 to reach her fifth final in Tokyo. She lowered that mark down to 37.47 in the evening session to finish seventh overall in the event.
Coan and Hermes both represented the United States at this year's Paralympic Games, which were scheduled from August 24 – September 5. Coan earned her fourth-career gold medal after repeating as champion in the 400 freestyle S7, and she added a silver medal in the 100 free S7. Hermes, competing in her second Paralympics, posted a career-best sixth-place finish in the 400 free S11 during the first of her four individual events.

Wednesday, September 1 - Day 8
McKenzie Coan, fresh off her silver medal in the 100-meter freestyle S7 on Tuesday, qualified for the evening final in the 50 free S8, while
McClain Hermes concluded her second Paralympics experience with a 10th place effort in the 100 breaststroke S11.
Coan completed her morning preliminary swim in a time of 33.12. That was the third-quickest time in her heat and made her the No. 7 qualifier for the final. Coan would ultimately place eighth with an evening mark of 33.18. Hermes, meanwhile touched the wall in 1:48.39 in her 100 breast preliminary heat.

McKenzie Coan, after earning a repeat gold medal in the 400-meter freestyle S7 on Sunday, took fourth in the 100 backstroke S7 final after touching the wall in 1:23.10. That left her just over a second back of USA teammate Julia Gaffney for a spot on the podium.
McClain Hermes, meanwhile, swam in the 200 individual medley S11, taking sixth in her heat with a mark of 3:26.81. That ranked her 13th overall across the two preliminary races.
Sunday, August 29 - Day 5 - Coan Wins Gold in 400 Free S7

McClain Hermes raced in her second of four events of the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games on Saturday, completing her preliminary heat in the 100-meter backstroke (S11 classification) in a time of 1:29.11. That mark placed her sixth in the heat and 11th overall, leaving her just short of qualifying for the evening final.
Thursday, August 26 - Day 2
McClain Hermes competed in her first event of the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games on Thursday, qualifying for the evening final and earning a sixth place finish in the 400 meter freestyle (S11 classification).
Hermes completed the evening final in 5:29.34, just edging out Russia's Anastasiia Shevchenko for sixth and taking over nine seconds off her preliminary mark of 5:38.56. She secured her highest-ever finish at the Paralympics stage after previously taking eighth in the 100 backstroke in Rio de Janeiro back in 2016. Hermes' Team USA teammate Anastasia Pagonis earned gold in the 400 free with a world record time of 4:54.49.
