DeSmit and Sim Named to Patriot League Academic All-League Team

Bethlehem -- The Patriot League announced on Wednesday afternoon the Academic All-League team, as Loyola University Maryland's Paige Sim and Baylee DeSmit were named to the 11-member team.

Sim is a four-time member of the Academic All-Patriot League Team and owns a 3.9 cumulative GPA as a biochemistry major at Loyola. This is DeSmit's first time being named to the Academic All-Patriot League team, as she owns an 3.6 GPA as a elementary education major with an special education minor. 

Sim was one of two students to earn the Diane Geppi-Aikens Service to Loyola Award this fall, the highest honor the school gives to student leaders. She has also volunteers at the Ulman House Foundation and the Cycle to Inspire fundraiser for cancer research.

She is also an member of the Green and Grey Society member, a group that is selected for demonstrating excellence in academic, personal, and spiritual integration and a commitment to leadership and service to Loyola. In the role, Sim serves as an advisor to the University executives by identifying and communicating issues of significance. Sim was also a CoSIDA Second Team Academic All-American Selection last year. 

Sim has also had experience working in operating rooms, in a pediatric hospital, in health clinics and has also assisted in a research fellowship. 

On the field, Sim broke the Loyola career shutouts record this season, as well as tying the Patriot League career shutouts record. On the season, she recorded 8 shutouts and had an .92 goals against average. 

DeSmit has made the deans list in three semesters during her time at Loyola. She has been a member of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes club at Loyola since she first arrived at Loyola. Over the summer, she works as an camp counselor at ESF summer camps. 

On the field, DeSmit was named as the Patriot League offensive player of the year, as she led the Patriot League in goals (10) and points (28) and was second in assists (8).
