Berry Becomes First Loyola Alumnus To Qualify For PGA Tour Event

PLANTATION, Fla. – Brandon Berry shot 6-under 65 at the Plantation Preserve Golf Course & Club and then birdied the first hole of a three-for-two playoff to qualify for the PGA Tour's Corales Puntacana Resort & Club Championship.

He will be the the first Loyola University Maryland alumnus to play in a PGA Tour event when he makes the tees off at the event that is slated for April 18-21 in the Dominican Republic.

Berry graduated from Loyola in 2021 with a bachelor of business administration in finance, and he then received his M.B.A. from the school in 2022. He is the second former Loyola player to reach a PGA Tour event. Matt Oshrine, who played at Loyola from 2013-15 before transferring to Duke University, played in the 2020 event in Punta Cana.

At today's Monday Qualifier, Berry was in the next-to-last group to tee off from No. 10, and he was even par through four holes with two pars, a birdie at No. 11 and a bogey on 12.

He got hot to close the course's back nine, birding five-straight holes to make his turn at 5-under par. Berry continued his birdie streak with one on the first hole to make it six in a row, and he then had pars on the next eight holes to close out his round at 6-under.

That score tied him for third with two other players, and the top four would go on to the Tour stop in Punta Cana. Berry reached the 18th hole's par-5 green in two, and he then two-putted for birdie to advance to his first PGA Tour event.

Earlier this year, the 2021 Patriot League medalist became the first Loyola alumnus to play in a Korn Ferry event after Monday qualifying Astara Golf Championship presented by Mastercard in Colombia.

Berry concluded his Loyola University Maryland career in 2022 as the school record-holder in total rounds (118), rounds of par or better (54), birdies (409) and eagles (22). He had a 72.8 average score that ranks third in school history and a 1.37 to-par score that is also third.
