BLACKSBURG, Va. – Loyola University Maryland's defense held Virginia Tech off the scoreboard for more than 70 minutes Thursday night, but the Hokies converted a chance inside the six-yard box late in the game and came away with a 1-0 decision.
The game was called with 8:01 left on the clock due to lightning in the area.
Virginia Tech (4-0-1 overall) controlled most of the match's possession, but Loyola's defense held the Hokies scoreless until Allie George one-timed a cross inside the box and scored at 73:05.
That goal proved to be the margin of victory for the Hokies who placed just six of their 28 shots on goal in the game thanks in large part to a Loyola defense that endured stress but held them to many long-distance opportunities.
Brigid Mulholland made five saves for Loyola in the game.
The Greyhounds return home on Sunday, September 1, for a 12 noon game against Northern Colorado. The Greyhounds will celebrate their Class of 2025 with a pregame Senior Day ceremony that will start at approximately 11:45 a.m.
