BOSTON — Loyola University Maryland leaned on a resilient defensive performance and the steady hands of goalkeeper Hannah Goetzer to grind out a 0-0 draw at Boston University on Saturday afternoon at Nickerson Field.
Goetzer was spectacular for the Greyhounds (3-2-5, 0-0-2 Patriot League), finishing with nine saves to record her fourth shutout of the season. Time and again, the junior goalkeeper denied the Terriers' attack, turning away six first-half attempts to keep the match scoreless.
Despite being outshot 21-7, Loyola stayed composed under pressure. Defenders Zoe Willis, Renee Wanzor and Riley Kennel anchored the back line, limiting Boston's looks to mostly long-range efforts. Wanzor and Kennel also sparked the counterattack, each testing Terrier keeper Bridget Carr with shots on frame.
On the offensive end, Savannah Manset provided a spark with a pair of attempts, including a dangerous strike in the first half that forced Carr into action. Midfielder Asma Merzougui and forward Malia Tarazon also created chances, helping Loyola finish with four corner kicks and nearly breaking through late.
Despite trailing in shots 21-7, Loyola held 48% of the possession on Saturday afternoon.
Goetzer's nine saves mark a season-best, besting a eight-save performance against Princeton.
With the result, Loyola remains unbeaten in conference play through two matches and continued to showcase one of the Patriot League's stingiest defenses. The Greyhounds return to action on Wednesday as they travel to face American at 1:00 PM.
