STATE COLLEGE, Pa. –
Kayla Hayes ran the fifth-fastest 5,000-meter time in Loyola University Maryland women's track and field history, highlighting the start of the Greyhounds' weekend at the Penn State National Open.
Hayes finished fifth in the race in 17:36.69 and became the second-fastest Loyola runner in the event in program history.
Kat Zysk took 23rd in the 800 meters, clocking a time of 2:14.21, while
Claire Griffin was 32nd in 2:17.65. and
Claire Dalsass took 24th in 2:19.74. Zysk's time ranks her as No. 5 on the school's all-time top performers' list, while Griffin's time ranks 10th.
Maddie Van Haren ran 59.86 to finish 39th in the 400 meters to become the 10th-fastest woman in school indoor history in the event.
Lauryn Clarke ran 7.72 seconds to finish 27th in the 60 meters;
Gabby Snowden was 37th in the event with a time of 7.83.
The Greyhounds will resume competition at the event on Saturday with another contingent competing in Fairfax, Virginia, at the Patriot Games.
