Cruz Claims School Hurdles Record At Scarlet Knights Open

NEW YORK – A week after tying the school indoor record in the 60-meter hurdles, Nelly Cruz broke the mark that had stood for 14 years to lead the Loyola University Maryland track and field team's performances at the Scarlet Knights Open.
 
She ran a time of 9.08 seconds to take one-hundredth of a second off the previous best that she ran last weekend to share the record initially set in 2012 by Samantha Westley.
 
Claire Dalsass finished eighth overall in the 600 meters with a time of 1:39.13, while Meghan Leonard placed ninth in 1:39.47. Zoe Keefe followed in 11th place with a time of 1:40.80. Dalsass' time is sixth-fastest in school history, and Leonard's is eighth.
 
Mackenzie Newman became the ninth-fastest 5,000-meter runner indoors in school history, finishing 12th overall in 18:28.22.
 
Jane Mazzeo placed 20th in the hurdles in 8.05 seconds, Mia Maselli was 27th in 8.16 seconds, and Elizabeth Vigliotti finished 21st in 9.92 seconds.
 
Jane Mazzeo was the top Greyhounds sprinter in the 200 meters, finishing  30th with a time of 26.48 seconds, followed closely by Olivia Dever in 31st at 26.50. Julia Baguiao finished 33rd in 26.54 seconds, Nicolette Militi placed 36th in 26.81, and Mia Maselli was 37th in 26.85. Elizabeth Vigliotti took 39th in 27.08, Ellisa Sadler finished 43rd in 27.18, Jolie Kaoma placed 52nd in 27.67, Lauren Gerow was 54th in 27.73, and Chelsea Ayitey-Adjin finished 61st in 28.49.
 
Maddie Van Haren led Loyola with a 14th-place finish in the 400 meters, running 59.97 seconds. Nicolette Militi placed 18th in 1:00.84, Ellisa Sadler finished 23rd in 1:02.30, Chelsea Ayitey-Adjin was 30th in 1:03.94, and Jolie Kaoma placed 36th in 1:05.87.
 
Maeve Lowther finished 15th in the 800 meters with a time of 2:23.99, and Abbey Arseneau placed 25th in the mile with a time of 5:37.78. Selah Decatur took 29th in the 3,000 meters in 11:24.68.
 
Loyola also competed in the 4x400-meter relay, finishing fifth with a time of 4:13.47.
 
A group of men's cross country runners raced at the Armory, as well. Christian Zawislack finished 16th overall in 9:20.01, while Cal Lipkin was 30th in 4:30.45 and Nate Tibbetts finished 35th with a time of 4:37.67.
