LEWISBURG, Pa. – Loyola University Maryland closed the 2026 ECAC Open Championships with a strong final day Sunday, highlighted by a pair of ECAC titles from
Joe Hayburn and multiple podium finishes across individual and relay events.
The Greyhounds finished second on the men's side with 609 points and third on the women's with 408 points. Hayburn was named the Male Swimmer of the Meet after leading all competitors with 60 individual points.
Hayburn capped his championship meet in record-setting fashion, winning the men's 200 backstroke in 1:42.84, setting an ECAC Championship record, pool record and Loyola program record. He later added another ECAC title in the men's 100 freestyle, touching first in 42.93, also an ECAC Championships and Loyola record.
Hayburn anchored Loyola's third-place 400 freestyle relay to close the meet, teaming with
Jack Hathaway,
Thomas Cechini and
Tyler Knurek for a time of 3:00.36.
Those title added to his title, pool, ECAC and Loyola records earlier in the meet with a victory in the 100 backstroke.
In the distance events, Loyola posted multiple scoring swims.
Adrianna Caponiti took third in the women's 1650 freestyle, clocking 17:31.86. On the men's side,
Chase Garcia led the Greyhounds with a fourth-place finish in the 1650 freestyle at 15:50.15, followed by
Matthew Hughes in fifth at 15:56.77, Pierre Leroy in seventh at 16:01.76 and
Peter Weinstein in eighth at 16:25.31.
Loyola added significant points in the backstroke events. Sammy Yerkes led the women with a 12th-place finish in the 200 backstroke at 2:04.97, while
Virginia Walsh finished 13th at 2:05.39,
Kelly Bruen was 14th at 2:06.03 and
Elsie Bredbenner placed 15th at 2:07.14. On the men's side,
Sam Voss placed sixth in the 200 backstroke with a time of 1:49.59,
Josh Stegner finished seventh at 1:51.40 and Patrick Ciorna took eighth at 1:51.50.
Haley Robinson finished second in the women's 100 freestyle, touching in 51.22, while
Gabby Jones placed 13th at 52.74.
Tyler Knurek added points on the men's side with a 14th-place finish in the 100 freestyle at 45.46.
In the breaststroke events,
Noelle Hoffman led Loyola with a seventh-place finish in the women's 200 breaststroke in 2:22.86, while
Riley McGerald placed ninth at 2:22.98,
Makenna O'Brien was 12th at 2:25.42 and
Grace Litzinger finished 15th at 2:28.51.
Jack Hathaway scored for the men with a fifth-place finish in the 200 breaststroke at 2:02.60, followed by
Elias Corn in eighth at 2:03.57 and Connor Libassi in 16th at 2:07.73.
Butterfly events rounded out Loyola's individual efforts. Caponiti finished fourth in the women's 200 butterfly at 2:07.40, while Yerkes placed eighth at 2:11.14 and
Riley Riebling finished 15th at 2:14.04.
Hayden Bartz led the men with a seventh-place finish in the 200 butterfly at 1:49.47, followed by
Thomas Cechini in eighth at 1:50.59 and
Timmy King in 12th at 1:51.90.
Loyola's relays capped the meet with podium finishes. The women's 400 freestyle relay team of Walsh, Madison Testa,
Abby Hays and Jones placed third in 3:30.32, while the men followed with their own third-place finish in the final event of the meet.
