AMBLER, Pa. – Loyola's men's and women's cross country teams both came in second on Friday evening when the Greyhounds opened the 2026 season at the Temple Owls Invitational.
Mikey Byrnes led the men's team with a sixth-place finish, running 21:22.3, and
Ethan Halpern turned in a time of 21:33.3 on the four-mile course to place 10th for the men.
A trio of freshmen–
Emma Hagstrom,
Amelia Waggoner and
Fayola Allison–were the women's team's top three finishers, placing seventh (16:09.4), 10th (16:17.4) and 11th (16:19.6), respectively.
Three other Loyola women were in the top 20 with
Kayla Hayes placing 13th (16:21.3),
Jackie Mattos taking 15th (16:32.2) and
Kat Zysk racing to a 17th-place finish in 16:36.4 on the four-kilometer course.
Behind Byrnes and Halpern,
Nick Paganelli and
Christian Zawislack were in the top-20 for Loyola, running 22:11.7 and 22:12.9, respectively, for 15th and 16th.
Brennan Hiland,
Cal Lipkin and
Drew Peters were 23rd, 24th and 25th in 22:31.6, 22:32.5 and 22:34.5, respectively.
Other finishers for the Loyola men were
Nate Tibbetts (35th, 23:04.4),
Jack Arrington (36th, 23:12.4),
Matt Bradley (42nd, 23:44.4),
Logan Eagles (43rd, 23:53.8),
Tucker Dalton (44th, 24:13.3) and
Andrew Robinson (45th, 24:24.1).
For Loyola's women, additional finishers were
