SALISBURY, MD - Loyola freshman Andrea Rovegno won her third meet of the season as the Greyhound women's cross country team placed five runners in the top-seven en route to winning Saturday's Maryland Collegiate Cross Country Championships held at Salisbury University's 6,000-meter course.
Rovegno's winning time of 21:30 is the second-fastest 6K time in school history and she was followed across the finish line by junior teammate Jackie Truncellito, who finished second, seniors Grace Wetzel and Gretchen Schuller, who finished fourth and fifth, respectively, and sophomore Caitlin Dunne, who took seventh.
Loyola recorded a meet-best 19 points, just four points short of a perfect score, a feat the Greyhounds accomplished earlier this year at the McDaniel Invitational.
The women's win marks the second consecutive year that Loyola has won this meet, defeating squads like Towson, the University of Maryland-Eastern Shore, and the University of Maryland.
Greyhounds Rovegno, Truncellito, Wetzel, Schuller, Dunne, and Jackie Gaines were all named to the All-State team.
Loyola's men's team used a record-setting day by junior James daSilva to grab third place, finishing behind UMES and Salisbury.
DaSilva completed the 8,000 meter layout in a time of 25:36 to finish second overall and break Loyola's previous school record by a whopping 16 seconds.
DaSilva along with teammates sophomore Ronan McDermott and freshman Perry Salonia were the Greyhound men named to the All-State team.
Loyola returns to action Saturday, October 11th when it heads to Orlando, FL for the nationally renowned Walt Disney World Classic.
