Bethlehem, Pa. - The Loyola College men's and women's cross country teams closed the 2007 season with a solid day at the NCAA Regionals in Bethlehem, Pa. on Saturday. Among the highlights were Chris Heibell's school record and five Top-10 times in Loyola history.
The fast track at Lehigh produced a time of 31:24 for Heibell, who took 42nd overall in the race. The Greyhounds ran six men overall and five registered all-time Top-10 times for Loyola. Dan McDevitt, Keith Forlenza, Terry Moran and Brian Parker were the scorers, capping a great season for the men.
"We had five Top-10 times and finished 20th overall," says Head Coach Rick Woods. "That just shows you how tough this region really is."
On the women's side, junior Maureen Wynn ran her best time of the year - 22:30 - and took 83rd overall. She was followed by Lindsay Wilson in 22:39. Junior Alexandra Salani also had a great showing, while freshmen Kate Cervo and Lindsay Murphy completed the Loyola scoring.
"The girls ran well but were again up against some very tough competition," added Coach Woods. "This is a young squad and the experience they gained today will bode well for the future."
The men close the year having attained their highest ever regional ranking at No. 13 this season. Many of the women's cross country members, who took third at the MAAC Championships, will begin Indoor Track competition at the Bison Opener in Lewisburg, Pa. on December 2.
