Game Data

• The Loyola University Maryland women's soccer team hosts the first part of a soccer doubleheader on Wednesday when it takes on UMBC at 5 p.m. at Ridley Athletic Complex. The Loyola men will follow with a game against UMBC, starting at approximately 7 p.m.
• The Greyhounds host another Maryland opponent to close out their regular-season non-conference schedule on Friday when Mount St. Mary's comes to Ridley Athletic Complex for a 7 p.m. match.

Sophomore Week

• It's Sophomore Week at Loyola University Maryland, and the Office of Sophomore Initiatives is hosting a tailgate at Ridley Athletic Complex on Wednesday. Shuttle service from the Loyola/Notre Dame Library and Newman Towers will start at 4:30 p.m., and the tailgate, which features games, prizes and free food, will kick off at 5 p.m.

Series History

• Loyola and UMBC are meeting for the first time since the 2005 season when Loyola defeated the Retrievers, 2-0, on September 16, to take a 3-2-2 all-time lead in the series. The series dates back to 1992, the first year of the Greyhounds' program.
• Mount St. Mary's will make its first trip to Loyola since October 2, 1996, when the Mountaineers visit on Friday. The Greyhounds have won all six prior meetings between the teams, including a 1-0 decision in Emmitsburg, Md., in the 2009 season-opener.

Last Time Out

• Loyola finished last weekend with a 0-1-1 mark in its road trip to the 'Show Me State.' The Greyhounds tied Saint Louis, 0-0, on Sunday after falling, 3-2, at Missouri on Friday.
• Nichole Schiro scored two first-half goals on Friday to give Loyola a 2-0 halftime lead against the two-time defending Big 12 Conference Champion Tigers. Missouri rallied, however, tying the score late in the second half and scoring the game-winner 1:03 into the second overtime. Danielle Ippolito made 10 saves in goal for Loyola.
• Ippolito made four more saves on Sunday against the Billikens, and Joie McLaughlin and Gianna Mangione each recorded team saves, clearing the ball of the end line and saving goals in the final minute of the second overtime, preserving a 0-0 tie.

Overtime Warriors

• Loyola has played three-consecutive double overtime games and four in a row that have gone to at least one overtime. The four-straight overtime contests mark a school record for consecutive games going into extra time. The Greyhounds are 1-1-2 in that stretch.

Schiro Shines In MAAC

• Sophomore forward Nichole Schiro was named the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Offensive Player of the Week on Monday after scoring twice at Missouri.
• Schiro tallied goals in the 28th and 41st minutes to give the Greyhounds a 2-0 lead against the two-time defending Big 12 Champion.
• The game marked Schiro's second multi-goal effort of her collegiate career, the first coming in this year's season-opener on August 21 against Towson.
• In 32 career games, she has scored 14 goals for the Greyhounds. She leads the team with five goals and 11 points this season.

Shot Stopping

• Nichole Schiro's award from the MAAC marked the second week in a row that a Loyola player has been honored by the conference. Sophomore goalkeeper Danielle Ippolito earned MAAC Defensive Player of the Week honors on September 13 after making 19 saves against George Washington and La Salle.
• Ippolito saved 10 shots against Missouri and made four saves versus Saint Louis. The shutout against the Billikens was her second of the season.
• Ippolito's 19 saves against La Salle and George Washington were the most over a two-game stretch by a Loyola goalkeeper since August 2008. Brittany Henderson made 19 saves versus Virginia and Old Dominion on August 22 and 31, but she also allowed seven goals in those games, while Ippolito gave up just one.

Freshmen Stepping Up

• A trio of freshmen stepped up with key performances last weekend for Loyola. Alex Reed and Katelyn McFadden each recorded assists at Missouri, the second of the year for both players. Taylor Bryant made her first appearances of the season, seeing considerable time in the midfield against the Tigers and Saint Louis, after missing the first seven games due to an illness.

Team Defense

• Loyola has recorded team saves in three of its last four games. Joie McLaughlin and Gianna Mangione each cleared balls off the line, saving goals in the final minute of the second overtime at Saint Louis.

Classy Senior

• Lina Staropoli has been named one of 30 candidates nationally for the 2010 Lowe's Senior CLASS Award. The award honors seniors who show exemplary merit in the classroom, competition, character and community.
• Staropoli, a 2010 Preseason All-MAAC team member, assisted on Loyola's first goal of the season, a Kelly Farrell score in the 34th minute versus Towson. She also recorded an assist on a Nichole Schiro goal in the first half at Missouri. That assist was the 17th of Staropoli's career, moving her into a three-way tie for fourth all-time at Loyola with Ashley Kramer and Katie Elliott.
• Staropoli needs one more assist to move into a tie for third at Loyola and two to tie for second.
