Quick Hits About The 'Hounds

Trip To Texas

  • Loyola University Maryland hits the road for the first time during the 2018 season, heading to Arlington, Texas, for the Maverick Classic.
  • The Greyhounds open play in the event on Friday, August 31 with an 11 a.m. (Central) match against the U.S. Air Force Academy. Later in the day, Loyola will take on Binghamton University in a 4 p.m. (Central) contest.
  • Loyola concludes the weekend on Saturday, September 1, when it faces host Texas-Arlington at 1:30 p.m. (Central)

Lone Star Homecoming

  • A pair of Loyola seniors will return to play their first collegiate volleyball matches in the Lone Star State this weekend. Molly Werts and Haley Puddy both hail from the Dallas Metroplex.
  • Werts, a setter, attended Flower Mound High School in Lewisville, while Puddy, a right-side hitter, came to Loyola out of Bishop Lynch HIgh School in Dallas.

Last Time Out

  • Loyola finished second at the Baltimore Bash presented by the Lord Baltimore Hotel last weekend, winning four-set matches against both Siena College and Towson University while losing to eventual champion Radford University in four.
  • The loss to Radford, the 2017 Big South Conference champion and NCAA Tournament participant, came after the Highlanders won each of their sets by just two points.
  • Loyola knocked off local rival Towson for the first time since 1996, downing a team that won 27 games and had a NCAA RPI of 64 last season.
  • A pair of freshmen, libero Katie Forsythe and outside hitter Abby Hamilton, were named to the All-Tournament Team.

Record-Breaking Freshman Earns Honors

  • Freshman libero Katie Forsythe was named the Patriot Leauge co-Rookie of the Week on Monday after a record-breaking performance Saturday. She finished the four-set win over Towson with a school-record 41 digs, the second-most in Patriot League history. That total also just missed the NCAA Division I's all-time top-25 list for digs in a four-set match (by two digs).
  • Forsythe averaged 6.58 digs per set over the weekend after also having 25 in the match against Radford and 13 versus Siena.
