ANNAPOLIS, Md. – Loyola University Maryland women's indoor track and field's 4x800-meter relay team shattered the school record on Saturday night and finished second in the event at the Patriot League Championships.
The Greyhounds' team of
Kayleigh Caggiano,
MaryEllen Woods,
Carly Spinnler and
Senna Ohlsson ran 8:51.68 to take almost 13 seconds off the previous Loyola best of 9:04.51 from last season's ECAC Championships.
Loyola was in fifth place when Ohlsson took the baton for the anchor leg, but she ran 2:07.12, the fastest split in the race, to bring the Greyhounds to second. Lehigh University won the race in 8:48.80, a Patriot League Championships record, while the U.S. Military Academy was third, only 15 hundredths of a second behind Loyola.
The Greyhounds' time was just over a second off the previous Patriot League Championships record.
In other action on Saturday,
Katherine Schramm was 15
th in the 60 meters, running 8.14.
Rhoda Miller was 18
th in 8.33, and
Devon Terwilliger clocked a time of 8.35 to finish 19
th.
Gillian Blackwood was 17
th in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 9.50 seconds;
Kathleen Shepherd was one place behind in 9.57.
Christina Daniels ran 18:07.98 to finish 16
th in the 5,000 meters, an event in which
Mary Sutton took 19
th in 18:20.70
Maria Jaeckel was the Greyhounds top finisher in the 200 meters, running 26.16 to take 21
st;
Heather Merrifield was 23
rd in 26.92.
The Greyhounds resume action in the Patriot League Championships on Sunday at 12 noon.
