Box Score 2 LAFAYETTE HILL, Pa. – The Loyola University Maryland women's tennis team swept all eight matches that were played on Saturday against Chestnut Hill, beating the Griffins, 6-1, but Chestnut Hill's men got past the Greyhounds, 4-3.
Kateri Martin and
Abigail Thornton opened their year with a 6-0 sweep of Nele Haag and Alani Connor in No. 1 doubles, paving the way for Loyola.
Julia Thompson and
Taylor Kuncl teamed to beat Annika Wise and Lottie Allin, 6-2, at No. 2 doubles, and Sydney and
Lauren Williamson beat Carlota Garcia and Gianna Vassulluzzo, 6-4 at No. 3.
Martin scored a 7-5, 6-3 win over Garcia at No. 1 doubles, and Thornton dispatched Haag, 6-3, 6-0 at No. 2. Thompson rallied from a 3-6 first-set defeat to top Wise, 7-5, 6-0 in the next two No. 3 frames. Kuncl then posted a 6-4, 6-3 win against Allin.
Williamson made her Loyola singles debut with a 1-6, 6-2, (11-9) victory at No. 5 singles.
On the men's side, Thomas Pitchley and Dom Dugandzic beat
Skyler Gates and
Benny Glezer, 6-3, at No. 1, and Killian Nagneaux paired with Juao Sousa for a narrow 7-6 (6) victory over
Edik Pribitkin and
Charlie Shanker at No. 2.
Peter Kelley and
Cooper Tomchik won by default at No. 3 doubles.
Gates opened singles with a solid 6-3, 6-3, victory over Pitchley at No. 1, and Pribitkin was a 6-4, 6-1 winner at No. 3 against Sousa. Tomchik was a default winner at No. 6.
Chestnut Hill, however, scored three singles wins to claim the match. Dagneaux beat Glezer, 6-0, 6-4, and Dugandzic topped Shanker, 6-1, 6-4. Mark Gladkyy then was a 6-4, 6-2 victor against
Colin Corsini.
