BALTIMORE – Loyola University Maryland men's and women's swimming and diving set two school, five pool and eight meet records on Saturday at the second day of the H2ounds Invitational.
Lily Mead broke a pair of pool and meet records by winning the women's 100 butterfly and 100 breaststroke races, and her breaststroke time also set a school record that had been on the books since 2020.
Joe Hayburn broke a school, pool and meet record, both that he had set previously, in the men's 100 backstroke. His time of 46.50 seconds was also an NCAA 'B' Cut standard.
The men's 200 freestyle relay team –
Caleb Kelly,
Patrick Hayburn, Hans Van Lierop and
Michael Gozdan – set a meet and pool record, breaking the mark set by the Greyhounds earlier this fall at the Thomas Murphy Invitational.
Mead started the record-setting evening with a victory in the 100 butterfly, swimming 53.59 to break the Mangione Aquatic Center record of 53.83 set in 2019 by now two-time U.S. Olympic Team Member Phoebe Bacon.
Michaela Schutz and
Haley Robinson were fourth and fifth, respectively, in the race for the Greyhounds with times of 56.01 and 56.41.
Three Greyhounds saw three men finish in the top five of the 100 butterfly with
Patrick Hayburn winning the race in 48.03.
Cameron Shinnick finished third (48.34) and
Harry Hearn (48.69) was fourth.
Riley Fried and
Kate O'Brien were first and second in the 400 individual medley for the women's team, swimming the top times in the race in 4:25.00 and 4:26.68; Fried's winning time set a meet record, as well.
Floyd Conlin raced to a second-place finish of 3:59.32 in the men's 400 individual medley, and
Kiernan Leary was fourth (4:00.72).
Schultz came back in the 200 freestyle to take second (1:52.34), while Gabrielle Jones (1:54.47) was fourth and
Riley Zinger fifth (1:55.33).
Henry Mueller,
Luke Dwyer and
Hayden Bartz swept the podium spots in the 200 freestyle, going 1:38.43, 1:38.88 and 1:38.97.
Liam Schindler finished fifth in 1:39.87. Mueller's winning time was a meet record.
Mead had her second record-setting swim of the night in the 100 breaststroke, finishing in 1:01.48. The time broke a school record by Devin Cronin from 2020 and a pool record by Drexel's Rachel Bernhardt in 2017.
Avery Stimmel took third in the race (1:04.16), and
Hannah Oslislo was fifth (1:05.21).
The men's team grabbed the top five spots of the 100 breaststroke, following
Brennan Coyle's win in 53.53.
Michael Gozdan was right behind in 53.80, followed by
Michael Venit (54.29),
Zach Eisenmann (54.54) and
Elias Corn (55.26).
Joe Hayburn's swim of 46.50 seconds in the men's 100 backstroke broke his own pool and school records and was an NCAA 'B' Cut time.
JD Moyer finished third in 49.55 with Shinnick coming in fourth (50.04).
Kelly Bruen was third in the 100 backstroke for the women in 56.58.
Stimmel, Robinson,
Fay Moser and
Charley Tulio won the women's 200 freestyle relay in 1:32.83, and the men's group of Kelly,
Patrick Hayburn, Van Lierop and Gozdan went 1:19.52 to break a pool and meet record.
The Greyhounds lead both the men's and women's races that will wrap up on Sunday. Preliminaries start at 10 a.m., and the finals will begin at 6 p.m.
