Seventy-eight members of the Loyola University Maryland swimming and diving team participated in the Maryland Swim Across America event on Sunday, raising more than $17,000 for the Sydney Kimmel Comprehensive Cancer Center.

Team members volunteered to raise donations for the cause and many also participated in the 1- and 3-mile open-water swims.

Pierre LeRoy won the men's 3-mile swim, while
Matthew Hughes was the men's 1-mile swim winner, and
CC Leoni took first in the women's 1-mile swim.

The Greyhounds combined to raise the fifth-most funds of groups at the Maryland event with
Joe Coleman,
Grace Dwyer and
Luke Dwyer each raising more than $2,000, and
Michael Venit and Remi Shaw both gathering more than $1,000.

Founded in 1987, Swim Across America has hosted charity swims with one goal: to raise money for innovative cancer research that would lead to breakthrough treatments and therapies. Since then, Swim Across America has raised over $100M to fund the next generation of pioneers in oncology and cancer-support care.
