ANNAPOLIS, Md. –
Joe Hayburn highlighted a strong third day for Loyola University Maryland men's and women's swimming and diving at the 2026 Patriot League Championships on Friday night, setting a school record and finishing second in two individual events at Lejeune Hall.
Hayburn broke his own program mark in the men's 100-yard butterfly, touching in 46.53 to place second overall. The time lowered the previous school record of 47.26 set in 2024. Earlier in the session, Hayburn added another runner-up finish in the men's 100 backstroke, clocking 44.93.
Through Friday's events, the Loyola men stood third overall with 720 points, while the Loyola women were fifth with 556 points entering the final day of competition.
In the women's 100 butterfly,
Christine Datovech placed third with a time of 53.74, while
Haley Robinson finished ninth in 54.13.
Michela Schultz placed 16th at 55.36,
Maeve Brandenburg was 17th in 54.57, and
Natalie Lomonosov finished 21st in 56.10.
Loyola had four swimmers compete in the women's 400 IM.
Riley Fried led the group with a 10th-place finish in 4:24.81.
Grace Dwyer placed 16th in 4:38.87,
Kate O'Brien was 20th in 4:31.27, and
Julia Mason finished 22nd in 4:33.88.
In the women's 200 freestyle,
Michela Schultz placed 15th with a time of 1:52.04, while Cecelia Van Lierop finished 23rd in 1:53.56.
Meghan Donovan posted a sixth-place finish in the women's 100 breaststroke, touching in 1:02.64.
Bryce Gold was 12th at 1:04.05, and
Hannah Oslislo placed 18th with a time of 1:04.05.
In the women's 100 backstroke,
Maeve Brandenburg finished 10th in 55.28, while
Lauren Lane placed 18th in 56.33.
The Loyola women's 200 freestyle relay team of Datovech,
Gianna Davis, Lomonosov and Robinson earned a second-place finish, clocking 1:31.61.
Following Hayburn's school-record swim in the 100 butterfly, Loyola placed six swimmers in the event.
Luke Dwyer finished seventh in 47.77,
Cameron Shinnick was 12th at 47.97,
Liam Schindler placed 14th in 48.78, Hans Van Lierop finished 15th in 48.85, and
Ben Schlotterer placed 23rd with a time of 49.62.
In the men's 400 IM,
Cody Miles led Loyola with a 10th-place finish in 3:54.95.
Floyd Conlin placed 14th in 3:58.94,
Kaden Fatta was 17th in 3:56.93, and
Kiernan Leary finished 19th at 3:58.43.
Loyola had two swimmers in the men's 200 freestyle.
Gavin Abelende placed ninth in 1:37.99, while
Colin Davis finished 10th in 1:38.14.
In the men's 100 breaststroke,
Brennan Coyle earned a fourth-place finish with a time of 52.49.
Michael Venit placed eighth in 53.09, and
Derek Feldman finished 17th at 55.66.
Hayburn's second-place finish in the men's 100 backstroke led another strong Loyola showing.
JD Moyer placed fourth in 47.25,
Ben Schlotterer finished 14th in 49.61, and
Cameron Shinnick was 17th at 49.76.
On the boards,
Thomas McCarthy placed 15th in the men's 1-meter diving competition with a score of 267.50.
The Loyola men's 200 freestyle relay team of Hayburn, Coyle, Schindler and Feldman finished third in 1:17.55, setting a school record and breaking the previous mark of 1:18.24 set at the 2025 Patriot League Championships.
