Hayburn Wins 100 Back, Sets Records At ECAC Championships

LEWISBURG, Pa. — Loyola University Maryland turned in a strong second day at the ECAC Swimming and Diving Championships on Saturday, highlighted by a record-breaking performance from Joe Hayburn and depth across the finals sessions at Bucknell University's Kinney Natatorium.
 
Hayburn delivered the signature moment of the night for the Greyhounds by winning the men's 100-yard backstroke in a school- and ECAC-record time of 44.69 seconds. The senior touched first, lowering the previous ECAC and school mark and capping a standout day for Loyola's men; it also improved his NCAA qualifying time.
 
Tyler Knurek followed in seventh place at 50.21, while Sam Voss placed 12th in 50.51, Patrick Ciorna was 13th in 50.58, and Riley Coyle finished 14th in 50.84.
 
Loyola opened the evening session with a third-place finish in the men's 200 medley relay, with Knurek, Hayden Bartz, Dylan Covington and Riley Coyle combining for a time of 1:29.92.
 
On the women's side, Loyola posted multiple top-five finishes in individual events. In the 400 individual medley, Noelle Hoffman placed third in 4:31.34, while Elsie Bredbenner finished fifth in 4:32.94.
 
Haley Robinson led the Greyhounds in the 100 butterfly, taking fourth place with a time of 55.62. Virginia Walsh added a ninth-place finish in the B final at 56.91.
 
In the 200 freestyle, Gabby Jones finished 14th overall in 1:54.85.
 
Riley McGerald scored for Loyola in the 100 breaststroke with a sixth-place finish in 1:04.26. Keira McGrath followed in 11th at 1:06.86, and Abby Hays placed 14th in 1:07.73.
 
Walsh doubled back later in the night to place seventh in the 100 backstroke at 57.11. Kelly Bruen finished 12th in 57.37, Sammy Yerkes was 13th in 57.67, and Molly Hoben placed 15th in 58.56.
 
On the men's side, Loyola picked up additional points in the 100 butterfly. Tyler Knurek placed 10th in 49.38, Patrick Ciorna was 12th in 49.88, Timmy King finished 13th in 50.37, and Dylan Covington took 16th in 51.35.
 
In the men's 200 freestyle, Thomas Cechini placed seventh in 1:39.23 and Hayden Bartz finished eighth in 1:40.53. Pierre Leroy added an 11th-place finish in 1:39.85.
 
Jack Hathaway led Loyola in the men's 100 breaststroke with a fourth-place finish in 54.91, while Elias Corn placed eighth in 55.91.
 
The Greyhounds closed the swimming portion of the night with a fourth-place finish in the women's 800 freestyle relay, as Adrianna Caponiti, Gabby Jones, Madison Testa and Noelle Hoffman combined for a time of 7:41.69. Loyola also placed second in the men's 800 freestyle relay, with Pierre Leroy, Thomas Cechini, Hayden Bartz and Josh Stegner finishing in 6:43.32.
 
In diving, Annie Dockx placed fourth in the women's 3-meter event with a score of 233.50, while Simone Abbasi finished seventh at 185.75. On the men's side, George Ligozio took fifth in the 1-meter dive with a score of 217.80.
 
Through Saturday's events, Loyola stood third in the women's team standings and second on the men's side heading into the final day of competition.
