BALTIMORE – Loyola University Maryland's
Christine Datovech delivered a record-breaking performance Saturday at the Thomas Murphy Invitational, setting both a school and Mangione Pool record in the 100-yard butterfly. Datovech clocked a time of 53.33 seconds in the morning preliminaries to establish the new marks, then returned in the evening to win the final in 53.44 seconds.
Loyola continued its commanding presence throughout the second day of competition, placing multiple swimmers and divers in the 'A' Finals across a wide range of events. In the women's 100-yard butterfly, Datovech led a Loyola sweep of the top three spots, followed by
Michela Schultz in second at 55.51 and
Haley Robinson in third at 55.71.
Maeve Brandenburg placed fifth in 56.46, and
Natalie Lomonosov finished eighth in 57.67.
On the men's side,
Luke Dwyer won the 100-yard butterfly in 48.39, edging Towson's Ben Eischeid.
Liam Schindler took third in 48.66, while Hans Van Lierop and
Cameron Shinnick placed seventh and eighth, respectively, with times of 49.45 and 49.50.
Riley Fried led the Greyhounds in the women's final of the 400 individual medley with a second-place finish in 4:25.94, followed by
Kate O'Brien in third at 4:28.72.
Noelle Hoffman (4:33.06),
Julia Mason (4:33.19), and
Grace Dwyer (4:34.96) rounded out the top eight.
In the men's 400 IM,
Cody Miles claimed victory in 3:56.39, with
Kiernan Leary and
Floyd Conlin finishing fifth and sixth, respectively.
Michela Schultz added a fifth-place finish in the women's 200-yard freestyle with a time of 1:53.34, while
Lauren Lane placed ninth in 1:55.33. In the men's 200 freestyle,
Gavin Abelende led Loyola with a second-place finish in 1:39.74.
Hayden Bartz (1:40.96),
Thomas Cechini (1:41.34),
Owen Glaser (1:42.31), and
Tyler Knurek (1:42.45) also placed in the top eight.
Bryce Gold won the 100 breaststroke in 1:03.99, while
Meghan Donovan (1:04.02),
Hannah Oslislo (1:04.38), and
Riley McGerald (1:05.83) followed in second through fourth, and
Keira McGrath placed eighth in 1:06.53.
In the men's 100 breaststroke,
Jack Hathaway finished third in 55.12, with
Michael Venit close behind in fourth at 55.15.
Kaden Fatta and
Elias Corn added seventh- and eighth-place finishes.
Brandenburg returned to win the women's 100-yard backstroke in 56.21, leading a strong Loyola contingent that included
Virginia Walsh (56.95),
Kelly Bruen (57.03), and
Grace Dwyer (57.25), who finished second through fifth.
Lauren Lane added a ninth-place finish in 58.83.
On the men's side,
Joe Hayburn won the 100 backstroke in 47.02, setting a meet record.
JD Moyer placed third in 49.04, while freshmen
Ben Schlotterer and Patrick Ciorna finished sixth and seventh.
Cameron Shinnick rounded out the top nine.
In diving, Calista Fasser placed third in the women's 3-meter event with a score of 229.20, and
Annie Dockx finished ninth. On the men's side,
George Ligozio tied for second in the 1-meter dive with a score of 298.30.
Sam Hersick placed eighth, and
Thomas McCarthy finished ninth.
