Clarke Wins Twice, Sets School Record In Outdoor Track Opener

ANNAPOLIS, Md. – Lauryn Clarke won a pair of races on Saturday as the Loyola University Maryland track and field team opened its 2025 outdoor schedule at the Navy Invitational.
 
Clarke took first in the 100 meters, running the third-fastest time in school history, 11.82 second, before coming back in the 200 meters with a victory.
 
Her finish of 24.20 seconds was a wind-aided time and did not count for record purposes, but gave her the victory in a second event.
 
Clarke was also part of the Greyhounds' 4x100-meter relay team that was third in 47.21 seconds. Madelyn Ricard, Jane Mazzeo, Clarke and Maddie Van Haren ran the second-best time in school history in the process.
 
Nelly Cruz took third in the 100-meter hurdles, running the 10th-best time in school history, 15.21 seconds.
 
She led off the women's 4x400-meter relay team and joined Mazzeo, Lauren Gerow and Julia Baguaio for a second-place finish in 4:02.07.
 
Van Haren took fourth in the 400 meters, finishing in 59.89 seconds, Mazzeo was fourth in the 100 meters in 12.34 and Kiera Udell also had a top-five finish for the Greyhounds, taking fifth in the 800 meters in 2:15.47.
 
Kat Zysk was eighth in the 800 behind Udell, running 2:17.33. Meghan Leonard was 14th (2:22.08), Maeve Lowther took 18th (2:25.93), Talia Banafato was 20th (2:29.26) and Maddie Hyde finished 21st (2:31.55).
 
Claire Dalsass finished sixth in the 400 meters (60.97), and Nicolette Militi was seventh (61.16). Baguaio finished eighth in 61.19 seconds, and Ajia Morrison rounded out the five Loyola runners in the event in 13th-place (64.64).
 
Lowther ran 4:44.45 to finish 11th in the 1,500 meters to lead four Greyhounds in the event. Kasey Boag was 16th (4:59.78), Norah Affanato was 17th (5:01.02) and Kayla Hayes was 21st (5:11.93).
 
Lauren Gerow finished ninth in the 400-meter hurdles, running 68.84, while Maggie Yost was 14th in 72.43. Yost also finished 17th in the 100-meter hurdles in 17.85.
 
Ricard was 11th in the 100 meters in 12.98, and Mia Maselli took 12th in 13.02. Van Haren ran 25.85 seconds for 14th in the 200 meters, Mazzeo was 16th in 26.16 and Ricard took 21st in 27.33.
 
Mackenzie Newman was 11th in the 5,000 meters in 19:19.89, and Kylie Maddalena took 13th in 19:38.30.
 
Baguaio, Maselli, Elizabeth Gallagher and Cruz teamed to run 50.35 and finish sixth in the 4x100-meter relay. Leonard, Zysk, Udell and Dalsass ran 4:10.56 and took fourth in the 4x400-meter relay, and Banafato, Maselli, Militi and Lowther took seventh in 4:20.59.
 
Members of the Loyola men's cross country team competed at the event, as well. Mikey Byrnes had the team's best finish, taking fourth in the 1,500 meters in 4:05.96. Christian Zawislack was 13th in the event (4:15.08), Ryan Melendez took 16th (4:23.11) and Ailin Oberlies was 17th (4:24.53).
