BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Loyola University Maryland cross country had an excellent day of racing at the 50
th edition of the Paul Short Run, posting 11 top 100 finishes and showing team improvements from previous weeks.
Camden Spring had the top finish of the day for the program, leading the men's team to a 10
th-place finish in the College Brown 8k race with a time of 25:35.4.
Spring came through the 5k mark in 44
th place, but he moved up six spots over the final 3,000 meters to finish 38
th overall.
Christian Zawislack had an even bigger improvement over that same distance of the race, moving up 10 spots from 78
th at 5,000 meters to 68
th at the finish with a time of 26:01.9.
The jumps by Spring and Zawislack were large, but not as big as those by
Mikey Byrnes and
Ailin Oberlies in the final 3,000 meters. Byrnes finished 74
th in 26:07.1 after coming through the 5k mark in 125
th-place, while Oberlies was 87
th (26:15.4) after passing 5,000 meters in 124
th.
Dillon Harding finished 91
st in 26:16.2, and
Dylan Jock was 93
rd in 26:16.3. Jock also had a good jump in the final three-eighths of the race, moving up from 119
th at 5,000 meters.
Dennis McNamara and
Bryan Hickman rounded out the Greyhounds entries in the Brown race with finishes in 200
th (27:39.1) and 215
th (27:53.4), respectively.
The Loyola women took ninth in the College Brown 6k with five runners finishing in the top 75 of the race.
Isabella Coleman led the Greyhounds with a 50
th-place finish in 22:42.8, pacing a Greyhounds' pack that was spread apart by just 23 places and less than 13 seconds.
Kiera Udell was less than three seconds behind (22:45.5) in 56
th, and Kayla Hays was less than two seconds off her time (22:46.9) in 59
th.
Maeve Lowther finished 67
th in 22:51.8, and
Norah Affanato rounded out the top-five Loyola runners in 73
rd (22:55.1).
Kasey Boag finished 183
rd (23:57.3),
Talia Banafato was 242
nd (25:12.3) and
Maddie Hyde took 263
rd (26:12.0).
Mackenzie Newman finished 266
th (26:12.0), and
Meghan Leonard crossed the line in 270
th (26:28.7).
Five runners competed in the Men's Open 8k, as well, led by
Evan Alander who was 279
th in 27:25.1.
