BALTIMORE –
Joe Hayburn and
Lily Mead swam NCAA 'B' Cut times on Sunday night while the Loyola University Maryland men's and women's swimming and diving teams closed the H2ounds Invitational at the Mangione Aquatic Center.
The Greyhounds won both the men's and women's team events over Johns Hopkins, Howard and Catholic.
Hayburn set his second school, pool and meet record of the weekend while picking up his second 'B' Cut time. He posted 1:42.80 in the 200 backstroke, a time that ranks second in the Patriot League and No. 46 in the Patriot League this year. On Saturday, he won the 100 backstroke in record-setting fashion.
Mead took down a meet record and NCAA 'B' Cut time in the 200 breastroke with the top time in the Patriot League this year, 2:13.02, to win the event on Sunday.
Overall, Loyola set five pool and 10 meet records during Sunday's swims.
Mead,
Avery Stimmel, Michaela Schultz and
Charley Tulio opened the night with a swim of 3:42.57 in the 400 medley relay, breaking a pool and meet record that was previously set by the Greyhounds in 2019.
The men's group of
JD Moyer,
Brennan Coyle,
Cameron Shinnick and
Caleb Kelly were next to set a pool and meet record, winning the 400 medley in 3:11.88
Faith Karr and
Alex Plavoukos were winners in the 1,650 freestyle with a pair of meet-record times. Karr set the women's mark in 17:13.77, and Plavoukos swam 15:29.84 for his mark.
Ellie Davis was second in the women's race (17:15.60), and
CC Leoni was fourth (17:24.76).
Kiernan Leary went 15:42.69 for second in the men's race, while Pierre Leroy (15:54.37) and
Jonah Goodman (15:55.60) were fourth and fifth.
Lauren Lane won the women's 200 backstroke in 2:01.97, and
Samantha Yerkes finished fifth (2:04.48).
Moyer followed Hayburn's win in the men's 200 backstorke, swimming 1:47.83, while Shinnick claimed third (1:48.07).
Stimmel,
Fay Moser and Tulio were second, third and fourth, respectively, in the women's 100 freestyle with swims of 50.92, 51.28 and 51.47.
Loyola took all nine spots in the 'A' final of the men's 100 freestyle in the preliminary action. Kelly set a pool and meet record of 43.98 seconds in the prelims, but Coyle edged him in the final, 44.15 to 44.20.
Henry Mueller finished third (44.74),
Patrick Hayburn was fourth (44.94) and
Liam Schindler grabbed fifth (45.08).
Michael Gozdan and
Michael Venit put down sub-2:00 times in the men's 200 breakstroke, finishing first and second in 1:57.90 and 1:59.69, while
Zach Eisenmann was third (2:01.07) and
Elias Corn took fifth (2:02.17).
Makenna O'Brien was fifth in the women's 200 breaststroke won by Mead, finishing in 2:23.25.
Julia Mason claimed first in the women's 200 butterfly, swimming 2:05.72 in the preliminaries and 2:06.17 in the final.
Laura Latham was third (2:07.78), Yerkes took fourth (2:08.92) and
Adrianna Caponiti finished fifth (2:09.02).
Luke Dwyer dropped more than four seconds off his prelims time to go 1:46.21 in the final of the men's 200 butterfly for a meet record winning time.
Owen Glaser claimed third (1:49.68) and
Hayden Bartz was fifth (1:51.44).
Loyola won both diving competitions on Sunday, as well.
Cali Fasser won the women's 1-meter event after winning the 3-meter earlier in the meet. She scored 235.88 points to edge teammate
Kassidy Georgevich who had 230.18.
Thomas McCarthy took his second win of the meet, scoring 279.53 to top teammate
Sam Hersick by 0.45 points (279.08) the 3-meter board.
The meet closed with more records in the 400 freestyle relays, both won by the Greyhounds.
Mead, Stimmel, Moser and Tulio finished in 3:24.01 for a meet record, while
Joe Hayburn, Mueller, Coyle and Kelly had pool and meet records in 2:55.41 for the men.
Loyola swept the meet awards as Mead and Coyle were the Female and Male Swimmers of the Meet with the highest point totals, and McCarthy and Fasser took the Diver of the Meet honors.
