BALTIMORE — Loyola University Maryland's men's and women's swimming and diving teams delivered a commanding performance Thursday afternoon at the Mangione Pool at the Fitness and Aquatic Center, sweeping Lafayette College in a Patriot League dual meet.
The Loyola women topped Lafayette with a 274-83 victory, while the men's team cruised to a 287-70 win.
The Loyola women opened the meet with a sweep in the 200-yard medley relay, placing first through fourth. The "A" relay team of
Christine Datovech (23.95),
Bryce Gold (24.00),
Haley Robinson (28.65), and
Gianna Davis (26.77) clocked in at 1:43.37 to take the win.
Ellie Davis led a 1-4 sweep for the women in the 1,000 freestyle with a time of 10:38.57, followed closely by
Faith Karr (10:42.52),
Elsie Bredbenner (10:51.43), and
Adrianna Caponiti (10:55.03).
Natalie Lomonosov won the 50-yard butterfly in 26.08, with
Julia Mason finishing second in 26.48. In the 200-yard freestyle,
Michela Schultz took first in 1:55.64, followed by
Cecilia van Lierop (1:55.97) and Madison Testa (1:59.15) in fourth.
Loyola swept the 100-yard backstroke with
Virginia Walsh (57.74),
Kelly Bruen (58.56),
Lauren Lane (58.89),
Grace Dwyer (59.19), and
Maeve Brandenburg (59.28) finishing first through fifth. The 100-yard breaststroke saw another sweep, led by
Bryce Gold (1:05.37), followed by
Hannah Oslislo (1:06.46),
Meghan Donovan (1:06.81), and
Riley McGerald (1:07.27).
Riley Fried took first in the 200-yard butterfly in 2:05.53, with
Julia Mason (2:11.21) and
Faith Karr (2:11.88) close behind.
Haley Robinson led a 1-3 finish in the 50-yard freestyle, winning in 23.73, joined by
Gianna Davis (24.42) and
Gabby Jones (24.93).
The Greyhounds also swept the 100-yard freestyle with Schultz (53.88), van Lierop (54.01),
Gianna Davis (54.04), Jones (54.27), and Testa (54.49) finishing first through fifth.
Loyola took the top five in the 100-yard butterfly, led by Datovech (56.29), followed by Schultz (58.11), Lomonosov (58.13), Walsh (58.33), and Mason (58.68). The Greyhounds swept the 50-yard backstroke, with Datovech (26.74), Robinson (26.82), and Lomonosov (27.59) taking the top three spots. In the 50-yard breaststroke, Loyola took the top five spots with Gold (30.23), Donovan (30.45), Oslislo (30.78), McGerald (30.79), and
Keira McGrath (31.50).
In diving, Calista Fasser won both the 1-meter (253.65) and 3-meter (254.48) events, with teammates
Kate Mundorf (228.91),
Kassidy Georgevich (220.50), and
Annie Dockx (226.21) also placing in the top five.
The Loyola men opened with a victory in the 200-yard medley relay, as the "A" team of
Joe Hayburn (20.14),
Michael Venit (21.63),
Hans van Lierop (24.73), and
Derek Feldman (22.30) posted a 1:28.80.
In the 1000-yard freestyle, Loyola swept the top four spots with
Cody Miles (9:40.45),
Chase Garcia (9:49.79),
Thomas Cechini (9:52.15), and Pierre Leroy (9:56.84).
Van Lierop led a 1-4 Loyola finish in the 50-yard butterfly with a time of 21.96, followed by Schindler (22.60), Tosoni (22.91), and Covington (23.15).
Gavin Abelende won the 200-yard freestyle in 1:42.19, leading a Loyola sweep of the top seven spots. He was followed by
Owen Glaser (1:43.04),
Tyler Knurek (1:43.65),
Kiernan Leary (1:44.68), and
Josh Stegner (1:46.01).
Hayburn led a 1-5 finish in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 48.67, followed by Moyer (49.92), Patrick Ciorna (51.24),
Ben Schlotterer (52.03), and Voss (53.73). Venit topped the 100-yard breaststroke in 56.54, followed by
Kaden Fatta (57.98),
Elias Corn (58.62),
Brennan Coyle (58.84), and
Jack Hathaway (58.90).
Dwyer won the 200 butterfly and led a sweep of the top five spots with a time of 1:51.51, followed by
Hayden Bartz (1:53.47),
Cameron Shinnick (1:53.69),
Timmy King (1:58.16), and
Lane Bradshaw (1:59.34).
Loyola also claimed four out of the top five in the 50-yard freestyle, led by
Liam Schindler (21.02),
Colin Davis (21.11),
Derek Feldman (21.12),
Hans van Lierop (21.50), and
Tristan Tosoni (21.56). In the 100-yard freestyle, Feldman (46.06), Abelende (46.35), and Davis (46.42) swept the top three spots.
In the 100-yard butterfly, Loyola swept the top five with Abelende (49.95), Dwyer (50.15), Schindler (50.37) and Shinnick (50.78).
Sam Hersick won the 1-meter diving with a score of 274.65 and placed fourth in the 3-meter (252.68).
Thomas McCarthy was second in the 3-meter (278.70) and fifth in the 1-meter (248.55), while
George Ligozio (251.40) also placed fourth in the 1-meter.
The meet concluded with Loyola victories in both the 200-yard freestyle relays. The men's "A" team of Abelende, Davis, van Lierop, and Hayburn finished in 1:23.43, while the women's "A" team of Schultz (23.92), Jones (25.08), Lomonosov (24.58), and Fried (24.73) posted a winning time of 1:38.31.
Loyola will be back in its home pool on Saturday when it hosts Lehigh and American in a 1 p.m. meet.
